Our
MWPC Political Action Committee (PAC) provides support to
qualified, pro-choice women candidates running for legislative
and statewide offices via the MWPC endorsement process. Selected
races for local office are also included in the endorsement
process. Candidates answer a questionnaire and then are screened
for an interview with the Political Action Committee Board.
Endorsed candidates receive access to MWPC lists, a press
release, and technical support and financial contributions.
Each year, the MWPC PAC is active in the election cycle and
helps women across the state pursue their political goals
and step up to power. In the last election five of the six
new women candidates endorsed in the general election for
legislative
office were victorious.
Our primary issues are:
-
Reproductive freedoms and the right to choice
-
Equal and civil rights for all citizens regardless of sexual
orientation, religion, race
-
Support for the Equal Rights Amendment
-
Accessible and affordable child care
We also support issues of quality education, family leave,
pay equity, prevention of domestic violence and crimes
against women, and prevention of sexual harassment.
VOLUNTEER ON A CAMPAIGN
The MWPC Political Action Committee endorses candidates
and tries to assist them in many ways. In addition to
assisting candidates with phone banking and sign holding
during campaign season, the MWPC Political Action Committee
hosts “Caucus Saturdays” where MWPC members
and supporters work together on a project for a candidate.
