Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus PAC Endorses Ayanna Pressley for Boston City Council At-Large

BOSTON – Calling the potential of Ayanna Pressley winning a seat on the Boston City Council “groundbreaking” for all of Boston, and for women everywhere,” Sheila Capone-Wulsin, Executive Director of the Mass Women’s Political Caucus (MWPC) announced today the 38- year old political action organization’s enthusiastic support for the candidacy of Ayanna Pressley.

“Ayanna will bring a unique voice and skillset to the Boston City Council. Many of us are familiar with her exemplary, collaborative approach and can-do style in connecting the residents of Boston and the state to resources and services, as an Aide to former Congressman Joseph Kennedy and Senator John Kerry. Ayanna will not only bring new leadership and new vision to the office, but she also brings proven, problem solving qualities and a life-long dedication to public service that will translate to even greater service to the families of Boston during these most challenging times.  In addition, she would be the first woman of color ever to serve and only the third woman elected at-large in the Council's 100 year history, said Capone-Wulsin.

“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus PAC,” states Pressley. “As a leading organization championing equality of opportunity, the MWPC shares my passion for increasing all citizens’ involvement and participation in the electoral process.  I look forward to our working together to reach out to voters to ask for one of their four votes on September 22.”

Ayanna Pressley began her work in public service l4 years ago as a constituent service representative for Congressman Kennedy where she worked with families, seniors and veterans helping them navigate and gain access to much needed opportunities and services. As Political Director for Senator John Kerry, she worked to build relationships that helped to improve the quality of life for individuals, families, small businesses, seniors, young people and a wide array of organizations throughout Boston and the Commonwealth.

She has served in leadership positions with such groups as the Young Professionals Preventing Child Abuse, and the Children's Trust Fund. She is a mentor with the Young Black Women's Society and the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston, and she is a member of the NAACP. She also serves on the boards of several Boston and statewide organizations, including the UMASS Boston Center for Women in Politics and Public Policy, Emerge, Massachusetts, and is a former board member of the Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus and recipient of their Wonder Woman Award.
